Set Port (SP) is a small program to allow the user to easily select the computer port an Insteon PowerLinc Controller (PLC) is connected to. It allows you to select USB or any COM port from 1 to 255.

Set Port will attempt to install or download and install the Device Manager if it is not already installed on your computer.

-Requirements-

Hardware

A computer running the Microsoft Windows Operating System.

A USB PowerLincController connected to your computer. Only tested with v1.12.

Software

ATL.dll installed. Included with Windows XP.

ActiveX 4.0+ installed. Included with Win98/Me and Win2000/XP.

Smarthome Device Manager 1.46 or higher installed.

 -Installation-

No installer is provided. Unzip the program to any drawer.

-Using Set Port-

When the program starts it opens communications with the Device Manager (DM) and query’s the DM for the current port. SP then sets the drop-down list to the current port. It goes on to test the port and reports success or failure.

The user can select the USB port or any of 255 serial (COM) ports from a drop-down list. Selecting the Set Port button will instruct the Device Manager to use the selected port and then test for communication with the PLC.

There is keyboard control for all the functions of Set Port.

Up/down scroll through the port choices.

Enter sets the port to the current selection.

Control + g will get the port that DM is currently using.

F1 will open a window containing version information about Set Port.
